Leslie Gallagher, OD, FAAO

Leslie Gallagher, OD, FAAO
Dr. Gallagher is a native of Alma. She earned a B.S. at Kansas State University. Dr. Gallagher then attended Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California. She received numerous clinical awards while attending SCCO. She completed her externships at both Miramar Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, California and Indian Health Services in Anadarko, Oklahoma. After graduating from SCCO in 2002, she was selected as the Cornea & Contact Lens resident at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma where she took emergency after-hour calls for Cherokee Nation’s hospital, managing all eye related emergencies. As the Cornea & Contact Lens Resident, Dr. Gallagher specialized in bifocal contacts, pediatric contact lenses, and corneal diseases. She was awarded the very prestigious Dr. Sherman Weschler Award by the American Academy of Optometry in 2003. This award is bestowed on one resident each year nationally for excellence in contact lens related research and patient care.

After completing her residency, she wanted to relocate to Central Kansas, near family. She joined Dr. Mark Bettencourt in the Holton office in June 2003.

Dr. Gallagher specializes in bifocal contacts, pediatric contact lenses, and “hard to fit” contacts. She also fits specialty contact lenses for patients with anterior segment disease such as keratoconus, neurotrophic keratitis, graft versus host eye disease, and post-surgical/post-trauma. She enjoys a challenge, in fact, her favorite patients to fit are those who have been told they could never wear contacts. Dr. Gallagher recently earned her Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry. Only a small percentage of practicing optometrists earn a fellow, as one must submit written case reports and pass rigorous oral examinations.

Dr. Gallagher is married to husband, Bobby and has three children Hayden,Gracie, and Luke. She is an active member of the Holton Booster Club and enjoys cheering on her children in their various sporting activities. She also enjoys running, biking and boating.
